Invitation: World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) on 5 November 2021

 Dear UNDRR Partners and Colleagues,

UNDRR’s New York Liaison Office is pleased to invite you to a virtual event to mark World Tsunami Awareness Day on 5 November 2021. Titled “Leveraging the Power of Science and Technology to Reduce Tsunami Risk for Current and Future Generations”, the event is co-organised by the Permanent Missions of Chile, Fiji, Japan, and Maldives, the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Disaster Risk Reduction (the Permanent Missions of Australia, Indonesia, Norway, and Peru), UNDRR, UNDP, and UNESCO.

This year’s virtual event will bring academics and experts in the field of science and technology together with young people engaged in disaster risk reduction and practitioners from national and local governments to discuss collaborative efforts to apply the latest science and technological innovations to reduce the risk posed by tsunamis and to raise awareness among at-risk communities.

The event will be held on-line from 8:30am to 10:00am (New York Time) on Friday, 5 November 2021. Registration for the event is available through the following link:
