The Faculty of Maritime Engineering and Marine Sciences (FIMCM) of ESPOL is proud to highlight its graduates who leave their mark on the global maritime industry. On this occasion, we talked with naval engineer Walter Arias, alumni of our faculty, who is currently developing his professional career in Malta, a country with a strong maritime tradition and one of the largest fleets of ships in the world.

From March 10 to 14, 2025, the Workshop on Harmonization and Standardization of Sampling, Toxin Analysis, and Quality Control Protocols for the Monitoring of Algae and Marine Toxins took place in Varadero, Cuba. The event was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the framework of Project INT7022.

Ph. D. Marco Alvarez, representing the School of Maritime Engineering and Marine Sciences (FIMCM), participated in the Workshop on the Jurisdictional Initiative for Farmed Shrimp, a key space for discussion on the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Gulf of Guayaquil.

The students of the first cohort of the Higher Technology in Port Logistics program have begun their community service internships as part of the Raíces Marinas: Culture and Sustainability in El Morro project.

As part of this initiative, the students are conducting training sessions for residents on how to care for the environment of El Morro Port and the conservation of the dock, a key space for the community. In addition, they will develop a proposal for the improvement and treatment of waste in the fishing port, including:

Last Friday, March 14, ESPOL's School of Maritime Engineering and Marine Sciences (FIMCM) hosted the Seminar on Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Conservation, and its relation to Climate Phenomena, an event organized in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
